Free NYE Long Beach

By David Ball

Downtown Long Beach is the place to be this New Year’s Eve! An estimated crowd of up to 50,000 will ring in 2010 in style at a massive FREE event taking place throughout Downtown.

At the Waterfront – 6PM
On December 31st, Downtown’s picturesque waterfront area will host Red Bull stunt driver Travis Pastrana as he attempts to break a world record by jumping his rally car off the Pine Avenue Pier onto a floating barge anchored in the Rainbow Harbor. This live, televised event will take place for the East Coast celebration at 9PM, with perfect viewing from Shoreline Village (particularly Parkers’ Lighthouse), the Lighthouse Park, or any of the Pine Avenue Pier restaurants, such as Famous Dave’s, Tokyo Wako, Gladstone’s or PF Chang’s. The live televised portion will begin at 6PM.

Pine Avenue (at Pine & Broadway) – 7PM
On Pine, beginning at 7PM, rock out to the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s with live performances by Beatles Tribute band American English and the high-energy fun of The Disco Kings and Knyght Ryder while you enjoy restaurant specials and more.

East Village Arts District (at 1st & Elm) – 8PM

The streets of the East Village will be filled starting at 8PM with live performances by favorite local bands Avi Buffalo, Rival Sons and Dusty Rhodes and the River Band. And be sure to grab a delicious beverage at the Rock Bottom Brewery Beer Garden located right next to the stage with some of the best views available!

As the clock strikes midnight, don’t miss the famous Queen Mary fireworks and the L.E.D. light show throughout Downtown as we burst into 2010.

Choose your favorite Downtown Long Beach neighborhood or visit all three, but definitely be in Long Beach on New Year’s Eve!
